Volvo XC40 Breakdown

What's New for the Volvo XC40?

For the new model year, Petaluma drivers will find the XC40 has adopted the new Core, Plus, and Ultimate trim levels into its lineup. Volvo has also swapped out the T4 and T5 powertrains for the new B4 and B5 models that feature a 48-volt hybrid system.

To go along with the new trims and engines, Volvo has given the XC40 a light exterior styling refresh, including updated headlamps, a revised front bumper and grille, and new wheel designs. There are also three new color options called Bright Dusk Metallic, Platinum Grey Metallic, and Silver Dawn Metallic. And the interior offers the same nine-inch touchscreen display but with an updated Google-based infotainment system.

Quality Performance

Powering every XC40 model is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder powertrain. When equipped with the B4 model, the XC40 can output 194 horsepower, and the B5 can output 247 horsepower. Both feature a 48-volt hybrid system, but the B5 is paired exclusively with all-wheel drive, while the entry-level B4 comes only with front-wheel drive.

According to the EPA, models with the B4 powertrain will get around 24 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway, while B5 models will get around 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

Stylish Interior Design

The cabin of the XC40 offers a light and airy atmosphere and a truly upscale feel that Bay Area locals will surely enjoy. The interior is well-made and beautifully designed, and the front and rear seats offer ample passenger space. There are also sprightly flourishes throughout the cabin, and more high-end trims offer textured metallic trim instead of traditional wood inlays.

The cargo area is also quite accommodating as it can hold multiple large suitcases. And when the seats are folded down, Rohnert Park residents can easily fit around 23 bags. From its air conditioning to its eight-speaker sound system, almost everything in the Volvo XC40 is controlled by the nine-inch touchscreen in the dashboard's center. A new Google-based infotainment system is available for the monitor, and menus are intuitively arranged.

Also available on this model are tech like a wireless smartphone charger, a universal garage door opener, and a surround-view camera system. But these are available on trims other than the base model.
