On May 18th, Volvo announced the debut of two new concept vehicles riding atop its new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform. Sharing a platform like this will make the implementation Volvo’s small car strategy much easier. The CMA technology was specially designed for smaller cars, and it has opened up possibilities for the company’s designers and engineers to explore new directions and bold, innovative design, which will certainly help set them apart in the sometimes-crowded small car market. Check out the video below for further information on these cool new concepts.
The CMA platform enables Volvo’s designers to create vehicles that are focused on the needs of urban millennials and more youthful drivers, injecting new life into the small car segment while embracing stunning lines, powerful design, an athletic stance, and youthful character. The vehicles appear at once obviously of the Volvo family, and yet, somehow, definitively unique and striking.
”Each member of our product family has its own distinct character, just like the members of a real family. CMA has helped us to capture something special, something youthful in our new concept cars. They have an energy, a disruptive and engaging urban character that makes them stand out amongst the crowd. This is the flavour of small Volvos to come,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Senior Vice President, Design, at Volvo Car Group
