You use Google Maps, right? It's sort of the go-to source for navigating via a smartphone, though you may have a special GPS device.
Often these maps will have up-to-date traffic data. When you select a navigation route, it will tell you where traffic is slow. This is because your device is talking to everyone else's device as it feeds back information. What if we could do something similar with road conditions?
The Connected Volvo feels when its wheels begin to slip. Not only does it compensate with traction control, but now it also sends a signal out to other connected cars, warning them, "Watch out, the road is slippery here."
It seems like Volvo is really working hard on safety, and using futuristic technologies to make it happen. They do have the ambitious goal of "no more serious injuries in a Volvo by 2020," using things like self-driving cars, and super intelligent safety features, including cloud connected road condition reports.
