The flagship engine we've been waiting for to be paired with the 2015 Volvo XC90 might have just been unveiled. Introducing the High Performance Drive-E Powertrain, a family of engines that take a 2.0L four-cylinder mill and double-turbochargers it with results that are nothing short of impressive.
To wit, the high end member of this family (which we hope and pray makes it to the new XC90) will produce 450 horsepower with its hybrid underpinning. For the sake of numbers, that's 225 horsepower per liter--an absolutely astronomical quantity of drive force, and besting the competition by margins of fifty ponies or more.
