In our last post here at Smothers European Volvo, we told you about the Drive Me project; a research initiative from Volvo, and Autoliv, that will put 100 families in self-driving cars on the streets of Gothenburg by 2017.

In an effort to alleviate hesitation of law makers and insurance companies, in regards to self-driving vehicles, Volvo CEO, Håkan Samuelsson, made a courageous statement to a small crowd gathered at the Swedish embassy in Washinton D.C.: If a Volvo vehicle causes an accident while in autonomous mode, the Company will take full responsibility for damages. Talk about standing behind your work!

This news comes after Volvo already promised to bring the number of fatalities and serious injurious down to zero by 2020, thanks to autonomous technology, and driver assistance systems like auto-braking.
