Why Tire Pressure Matters

Tire pressure is one those aspects of vehicle maintenance that’s often overlooked. When your car’s running fine, it’s easy to take the working parts for granted. The truth is that the tires can be the difference between your safely arriving at your destination or not.

When the tires are underinflated, it creates a situation where they must work harder than they should to contact and rotate on the road’s surface. This not only creates a need for more fuel consumption, but it also generates excess heat on the tire’s rubber. The extra wear affects the sidewalls. Overinflated tires create a dangerous situation because they’ve been filled to a point where their traction is ineffective. That means that you’re much more likely to skid, especially on wet surfaces. Additionally, they will need early replacing due to excessive wear on the tires’ center.
