Volvo and Autoliv Plan to Revolutionize Autonomous Driving with Zenuity Joint Venture

The Detroit Motor Show showcased many-a promise for the emerging autonomous vehicle market, but none so fascinating as Volvo's Drive Me research project, a collaborative effort between the public, private and academic research sectors that will road-test up to 100 autonomous vehicles with passengers on the roads of Gothenburg, Sweden during 2017. Today, Sweden; tomorrow, the world.

And it's nothing an additional investment in the way of a joint venture and 1.1 billion Swedish krona (SEK) can't handle. Volvo and automotive safety system producer Autoliv's Zenuity project plans to offer up some big-time software to up-and-coming autonomous driving and driver assistance system technology, with its first driver assistance products slated for 2019 and autonomous driving technologies right behind. Smothers European Volvo, for one, welcomes this new market overlord.

The revolution may be coming, but it doesn't have to mean we can't still experience the thrill of being behind a Volvo's wheel. Smothers European Volvo's wide selection of new and used Volvo vehicles eagerly await your next test drive. Servicing the Sonoma county, Bay Area, Petaluma and Rohnert Park areas and located in Santa Rosa, CA, we're just a short drive away.
